GST Calculation Formula Explained
Goods and Services Tax (GST) calculations can be tricky. This tool helps you in two ways:
- Add GST (Exclusive): Use this when you have a base price and need to add tax to it.
Formula: Total = Base Price + (Base Price × Rate/100) - Remove GST (Inclusive): Use this when you have a final MRP and need to find the original pre-tax price.
Formula: Base Price = MRP / (1 + Rate/100)

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
1. How to calculate GST included in MRP?
To reverse calculate GST from MRP: Divide the MRP by (1 + GST Rate/100). For example, if MRP is ₹118 and GST is 18%, Base Price = 118 / 1.18 = ₹100. The GST amount is ₹18.
2. What is the difference between Inclusive and Exclusive GST?
Exclusive GST means tax is added on top of the product price. Inclusive GST means the tax is already included in the final price you see.
3. Which GST rate applies to my business?
Service providers typically charge 18%. Traders and manufacturers must check the HSN code of their goods. Essentials are usually 5%, standard electronics 18%, and luxury goods 28%.
4. Is 18% GST calculated on total amount?
No, GST is calculated on the Taxable Value (Base Price). If you calculate 18% on the MRP (which already has tax), it will be incorrect (double taxation).
5. How to use this calculator for IGST?
The calculation logic for CGST+SGST and IGST is the same. If the rate is 18%, simply enter 18%. For intrastate, this 18% splits into 9% CGST and 9% SGST automatically in your accounting books.
